Motion Terminal connecting problem Solo mini V2

Hi!

 

I have some problems to connect the Mini V2 to Motion terminal.

 

The cable seems to work (data lines) because the Com port configuration works. (I have downloaded the drivers and installed the .nif file)

Com

 

The circuit board is in normal operation (flashing E2) and no DFU mode is activated.

I have also 

1- type " chrome://flags/#enable-experimental-web-platform-features " inside the browser

2- Enable experimental Web Platform features that are in development. – Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, Android (Image Attached)

3- Restart Chrome

 

Any suggestions....?

Hello @eviab,

In Motion Terminal, can you press Crt+F5 to refresh your cache and try again?

The COM port is showing that the unit is well-connected and ready on the line.

Let me know about the results after refreshing the Cache and we will proceed to the next steps.

Hi ! @milad 

 

I actually got the communication to work one knight last week but now do i have the same problem again.... 

I don't see any differences when applying Crt+F5... I have restarted the computer to, tried in other browsers as well.

There are a couple of questions:

  1. While you are trying to communicate with SOLO, is your Motor connected to the board? what about other connections? -- can you test the USB communication with only the USB cable and the power supply connected to be able to see why the problem occurs?
  2. How long is your USB cable? if the cable is very long there might be some loss of packets, but this is less likely.
  3. Could you connect a USB to UART convert to the UART TX, UART RX and GND of SOLO and try to communicate with the motion terminal? this test can let us know if the issue is the USB connection on the SOLO board or if it's related to your PC/Chrome setup.

Hi Milad!

I received a USB/Uart cable today and when i connected the board to the computer the E2 led stopped to shine after some attempts to connect to the board.... I think i will have to get another one... hehe

Hi @eviab,

This might be a firmware-related issue that shows up rarely, in a matter of 10 days or less we are releasing a new firmware with many interesting new features like PDO on CANopen and so on, it will also fix the problem you are facing, please wait till then and if the tests faild again you can get in touch with us at support[at]solomotorcontroller.com to take care of the repair/replacement.

Hi @eviab

We have released a new Firmware version, please go to Motion Terminal, press Crt+F5 to update your cache, and download the latest firmware from there, and by following the guides you should be able to update your device to firmware '0000B00F".

Please test this and let me know if the connection issue is still there or not.

Hi!

 

I bought a new one, I have no problems with the new one regarding the connection.

 

However do i have problems with configuration:

I have a D2838 motor, started without using encoder but I was not able to get a good speed regulation. I added a encoder E6A2-CW3C to the motor shaft. I have done the connection part and funded 2 ways for correct connection. But when I start the auto Calibration wizard it will go to the speed sensing point and then signal fault message for faulty connection. 

 

I did look at the "old" guide before the Calibration wizard was introduced for encoder setup. Motor connection and encoder is right connected but when i get to the torque test, the motor will speed up and change direction and speed up the other direction and then become stationary (Stall) i took a screenshot from the monitor.  

 

Any thoughts?

There are some important considerations for encoder calibration as below:

  1. have you followed the calibration process shown in this video from this article? ( testing all the 6 motor's wires combination is necessary, so it's natural that in 1 config the motor doesn't work in Torque or speed mode, thus you will need to test the other combinations)
  2. Make sure the Motor's number of Poles is correct ( the number of magnets on the rotor)
  3. Make sure your Encoder lines are correctly set, to test that, if you spin the motor 1 turn, in the motion terminal you will see the position will increase/decrease about 4 times the Encoder lines as SOLO is counting the quadrature counts, but Encoder lines are for physical lines 
  4. Make sure the Encoder is mechanically rigid with respect to the stator of the Motor, if the Encoder mechanically moves all the calibration values will be useless.

please check these points and let me know if you have other issues.

Yes, i have two combinations that will make the motor turn in torque mode.

  1. Make sure the Motor's number of Poles is correct ( the number of magnets on the rotor)

Yes, 14 poles. I have contacted the manufacturer and counted the magnets myself. 

  1. Make sure your Encoder lines are correctly set, to test that, if you spin the motor 1 turn, in the motion terminal you will see the position will increase/decrease about 4 times the Encoder lines as SOLO is counting the quadrature counts, but Encoder lines are for physical lines 

Yes, 200 lines. Every revolution increases motor position value with 800. 

  1. Make sure the Encoder is mechanically rigid with respect to the stator of the Motor, if the Encoder mechanically moves all the calibration values will be useless. please check these points and let me know if you have other issues.

Yes, i did a line up measurement so the encoder is perfectly center according to the engine shaft. Did not make any differences.

 

The behavior is equal C.C.W and when switching to C.W.

Yes, in torque mode. I goes up in high speeds and then slows down and turns the other direction and then peeds and then slows down and turns the other direction without I´m changing the C.W and C.C.W command. 

 

I have tested the speed mode butt the motor is stalling and the current increases (how fast depending on regulator settings...) butt the current will go very high so I will have to emergency stop...   

 

The same result for 2 motors one with KW:500 and one with KW:350.

Hi @eviab ,

Regarding the calibration:

- I'm just wondering if you could verify if the "Index" pulse from your encoder comes only once per mechanical turn always in the same mechanical position, we've seen encoders that they are not consistent with their index pulse. you probably need to monitor this with an oscilloscope.

Regarding the speed controlling issues:

- first of all the problem seems related to the calibration, so first we need to make sure the torque controlling is stable then we can talk about the speed mode, however, I see you put very low gains for speed controller Kp gain, I would recommend a number around 0.1 to start with, then you can go up or down with these gains to see what happens.

- I'd recommend during testing to keep the Speed Acceleration and Deceleration at numbers like 10-20 rev/s^2, just to avoid having very low values and being able to see the performance of the motor better, then you can change them.
